I am getting ready to install a video switcher, DVD player, and an inverter for a PS2. I have thought about using a power fuse block and hard wiring from the battery to the block and then hooking up the other items. I want to do this to keep everything together.  Would this be a good idea?

That will be fine. No problems I can think of with it.
