I told him i was thinkin of gettin an in-dash DVD player.  He instantly says that i dont want one because it would drain my battery and i would need a bigger alternator.  He has no background in mobile video or car electronics what-so-ever.  He also said that the unit would make my music sound like crap cause my amp (4x40 RMS running 4 Polk DB650's) would get less power becasue the DVD unit would be taking so much juice.  I havent looked that seriously into the specs, but these things cant draw more than a few dozen amps...

So it begs the question: Is my friend an idiot?

Yes, your friend is a moron. Find out if he knows where to get some blinker fluid.

I would have to say yes.  BTW a dvd player wont draw anywhere near a few dozen amps, thats alot.
