anyone know if this will work together?  i need to buy an expansion pack and if i need to, i midas well get the one for the cva-1004 if it hooks up and works.  reason is i don't mind having the extra graphics analyzers that the brain does for the cva-1004.

The KCE-104 for the CVA-1004 will not work with the 1003.  There was an expansion module available for the 1003.  Check on ebay.  It's the KCE-103.

No it doesn't.  I've own both, and as a matter of fact., the graphic EQ on the KCE-104 for the 1004 is rather cheesey.  It has 5 different screens to choose from and the graphics are black and white with the peak points being blue.  The 104 is essentially an expansion module.  I wouldn't purchase it just for the graphic EQ.   OH, by the way,  it's not an EQ only a graphic display, you cant set any ranges.

you've owned both?  then can you answer this question for me reguarding the 1003... can i play/feed video into the unit w/o an expansion pack?  or do i need the expansion pack to be able to feed video to the monitor?

Yes, you can play and feed video into the unit.  The expansion model is used to add extra monitors and additional inputs.  The CVA-1003 has a video input.
