Ok I have the chance to buy a 22" home TV thats a LCD FLAT SCREEN 3" deep... NOW. I know its not the right thing to do but instead of spending $2200 on a 3" deep 22" flatpannel LCD screen for the car could I get a power inverter and just hook it up like that and fiberglass it onto the trunk lid? Or am I just plain dumb for thinking it...? Please give me your opinion I'll just be running video to the screen no audio... I'll run maybe a pair of speakers on the lid also... THANK YOU FOR ANY HELP!!!!!!!!

Interesting. I have thought of this myself, so if anyone has any information there are two of us who would be interested.

It would work, just check the current draw. You may be able to wire the system to 12VDC directly. The box will say "Input 120VAC", and then will mention a DC voltage. Oh, and buy the extended warranty, TVs that sit on a table in your living room aren't made to last; in a car, you cut the life by about 50% or more. Also, check the weight. The structure the TV is built into will have to withstand the urge to come off the lid when it is closed (gravity).
Have fun!

Thanks for the replys!! I got the price today $1100 about $1000 cheeper but i'm still just a poor installer until winter comes (Ahhh the lovely remote start) Good idea on the wiring and weight issue though... The though about doing this crossed my mind as long as I hear that "it would work" then i'd be confident to do it... now all I need is my screen -------------

Alright, why the hell would you waste that much money to put a tv in the trunk of your car? Is that going to do you any good, being in the trunk and all? Spend the money on something else. ------------- Certified Security Specialist
Always check info with a digital multimeter.
I promise to be good.
Tell Darwin I sent you.
I've been sick lately, sorry I won't be on much.

Ummmm, most of the home Screens I have worked with are very sensitive to dirty power as I have seen some of them getting noise through the dirty power comming out of the wall ina house. If you put it in a car you better have one hell of an inverter and the best ground ever. Just my thought. I think Dyohn is a home installer, at least I know one of those top guys are, and I am sure they can shed more light onto this idea.
