Panasonic GM 2004 DVD

Hi all,

I picked up a 2004 OEM Panasonic overhead DVD (Suburban etc), and need some wiring help. Want to install this in a 2003 Suburban. The dealer says there is no pre-wiring for this unit.

There is a connector block on the back, with a 16 pin plug going to the screen, and a 12 pin plug. I don't know which of the 12 pins I need to connect to 12 volt, and what to do with the other 10?

Dude.. just a suggestion,if you cant figure out power from the circuit board,you probably wont have any idea how to deal with the rgb signals(i am assuming this is oem)
I hope you can run across someone half as anal as myself that is eager to take on a challenge!
I havent messed with the overheads,but i have done quite a few of the conversions of the factory nav units to display video,and they are strictly rgb signals..

I probably could, but did not open the unit yet. It is a complete unit, meaning player, inputs and screen all wired together and assembled in a nice OEM console.

Thus I believe all I'll need is to get some power to it. No sense in disassembling it all if somebodey can tell me which pins to power ;-)

No, it is a completely assembled unit. Meaning DVD player and screen all in an overhead console. All I should need is power to it, but don't want to take all apart to figure it out if there is somebody out there that can tell me which pins to power....

Have you figured out the wiring yet, I am in the same boat as you. I did however figure out how to wire the unit in to work without using the factory harness. If you have figured out where the factory harness is wired to, I would appriciate any help.  The wiring that I have recieved is:

Ground

(black)- hooks to the car body anywhere, Switched (orange)- hooks to the

switched power, and Constant (red) -hooks to the battery.

You need three wires to make it work. In the 12 pin plug there should be numbers on it. In cavity 2 the wire goes to the purple wire in the diagnostic plug under the left side of the driver's dash. In cavity 7 is ground to the vehicle chassis. In cavity 9 is an orange which goes to a fused battery source. There is no red wire and no ignition wire. The unit turns on through data. It will only work in a 2003 or 2004 full size GM truck.

Can anyone give a status update on this.  I am currently trying to install the factory overhead DVD console in an Escalade.  There are 6 wires coming from the overhead console wiring harness, but I don't know where to connect them to the back of the indash AM/FM/XM/Navigation system.  My guess would be to splice into the 6 wire harness in the back of the Nav system, but it appears this is for the XM radio.

Any help would be appreciated.

Can anyone give a status update?  I am also trying to install the factory overhead Panasonic DVD console in a 2003 Escalade and need to know how to wire it.  There is a wiring harness with 6 wires coming from the unit, but I need to know how to connect these wires into the indash AM/FM/XM/Navigation system.  There is also a 6 wire harness coming from the back of the indash unit, but these wires appear to be for the XM radio.  Any help would be appreciated.

Just be REALY careful with that purple wire..
you are messing with a few thousand dollars worth of electronics that connect to that wire.(like at least 10 different(probably more huh??) computers..)
I guess i have been careful(maybe lucky) enough not to ground/power this wire and blow anything up.
