sometimes you do, depends on the area..but to get the best reception i would recommend running 2 good diversity antennas(1 in the trunk, 1 in the a pillar, or b pillar

I live in the city so I get good reception, But only when I am setting still whenever the car is in motion I get wavy lines in the screen!
