Hi, I have a dvd player (45w X 4), in-dash 7' lcd (12 w) and a 7 ' roof mount lcd with TV tuner (10w) with amp already connected. I would like to know can the below be done. What I need is to replace my current head unit and install the 2 monitors in my Honda Civic 2002 sedan.

1. For power, can I connect all the power  for +12v , ground (-ve) and Acc +12v to the factory head unit plug?

2. Can I split thw video out from the dvd player to both the lcd monitor using the Y spilter or I need a video amp. spliter?

Thank you for your help.

ht380,

1. Yes, you can, just make sure the wire you use for power can handle the current draw from both monitors. LCDs usually take on the order of .5-.8A, so you should have no problem. Make sure you fuse each power wire separately. Use the same or larger size ground wire, which can all be connected together as well.

2. A Y-cable would technically work, but you will be sacrificing quality. A video amp will be your best solution, and it is easy to use. Try the Y-cable if you have one laying around to see the image quality, if you are content it would get you by fine temporarily. Adding another monitor would need an video amplifier definitely.

Good luck,

Dxav,

Thanks for the reply. Do you think i should tap the power before or after the plug?

Well, I may have missed something in your original post.

All the monitors I have ever installed only has +V and Gnd, no accessory. I always had some external component (a switch, for instance) turning on the monitors.

Do your monitors have an ACC line?

If so, power the +12VDC to the same line for the Constant 12V for the in-dash DVD, and the ACC line to the remote line of the DVD player. You would basically be wiring the screens the same way as the DVD player itself (+V, Accessory, GND).

If you only have the +V and Gnd wires for your monitors, you can wire the ACC line from the DVD player to the +V line on the Monitors. The ACC (Remote) line should be able to supply enough current to both monitors. Remember those fuses!

Not sure what you mean by the 'plug'.

Ok, The plug. My head unit that come with the factory come with a plug that will connect to the wires harrass of the car. The plug will connect all the power, acc, gnd, Front L/R  and Rear L/R speakers and illum. Ok, in another word, do I tap power from the wires harrass. My conccern is that will that plug support the current that my head unit and 2 monitors is drawing.  Thanks.

Yes, the plug should be able to supply current for the HU and 2 screens. The screens draw relatively minimal current.

Good luck, let us know if you need anymore help!
