Hi, my car is a BMW Z4. I had an Pioneer Avic-N1. It was having positioning inaccuracy problem as it was always 30 yards behind the actually position.

I have since then switched to a Pioneer AVIC-88 (and AVH-P7500). The same problem still exists. It's always 20-30 yards behind my actual position, and always 2 seconds too late when crossing intersections.

I've so far done the following:
1) Hooked up speed pulse wire & reverse wire
2) Moved GPS atenna to the center of the dash near the windshield
3) Re-setted the GPS brain many times
4) Re-checked all the wires and made sure the nav brain is mounted properly
5) Called Pioneer hotline 3 times and they couldn't provide any help

My installer is very experienced (more than 15 years) and he's intalled more than 20 nav systems that never had this problem. And we still couldn't figure out what is the problem. If anyone has experienced this same issue and has resolved it, please give me advice. I just feel so frustrated now especially after shedding out so much money and trying everything I can think of:-( I'd really appreciate it too if anyone has any possible solutions.

Alright, as a quick check take the GPS antenna out of the car entirely. Then run the cable over the carpet, out the window and set it on the roof. Reset the unit and go drive for about 15 minutes. If this solves the problem then there are RF issues that exist in the car. RF interference can cause these types of problems.

I agree with Auex. You should also be careful as to where you route the GPS antenna lead. Keep it away from magents and computer modules. Don't tightly coil the antenna lead's excess wire. Double check the connection of the VSS wire. A faulty connection or hook up to the wrong wire can also give similar problem.

Thanks for the responses!

I won't be able to talk to my installer until next Thursday.  So here's what I did today.</p>

I completely disconnected the GPS atenna, and drove around without the atenna altogether.  (GPS brain is mounted in the trunk).</p>

The nav, without the atenna, is acting EXACTLY like it was when the atenna WAS connected.  The connection status is showing ZERO satellite signals.  I then tried to manual modify the cursor on the map, but after about 5 seconds or so, it did get corrected, presumably by the satellite signals. </p>

Anyhow, I'm now going out and try to mount the GPS atenna on the trunk and see how it goes.   Holding my breath.

Okay.  Tried it with GPS atenna on the outside of the car.  Still doesnt work :-(

Hi

I'm not teaching anyone their job, but are you 100% sure the speed pulse connection is correct ? have you tried a new GPS antenna ? the cable could have been damaged, also after re-setting have you driven round for a minimum of 1/2 an hour, have you checked to see how many satelites it can see ? if it is none of those, then it can only be a faulty Nav. unit
