i have a avh 6400 ,i want to add on a navi unit, is the avic 80 the right one.it says it comes with the rgb cable for my unit ,but i see theres also a 88 and a 90 ?
also can the nav unit be mounted some where else ,like under a seat or is it
a slide in din chassis only?
Avic 88 is basically an avic-80 with navi discs and wireless remote control and navi only capability. Avic 9 can play dvd movies along with navi dvd's and is discontinued.. I have the AVH-P6500 and the avic 80 ( Nav Sys 910 pioneer combo ) Buy the avic-88 DVD and use the 26 pin RGB cable to link it with the 6400, not to mention the avic-88 comes with the latest maps. I have to honestly state that I'm disappointed with pioneer's maps. If you read reviews of pioneer navi systems, their weak points are the maps. The latest map disc contains data from 2002 and bit of 2003 and the next upgrade is slated for 2005.. Maybe, they will improve it in 2005.. Good luck
Btw. it can be under seat mounted. There is a setting for orientation of the navi unit.. fore/aft i.e. facing forward, or facing sideways. You have to change a screw setting to tell it, so the navi sensor can do the math correctly. I mounted it in the din since I have a dual-din, and left the screw setting alone..works fine..
