Looking for a good place to tap into the VSS for a Kenwood navigation unit.  Any help would be great.  Thanks!!!!

Do navigation units use the VSS to determine wheather the car is in motion or stopped, or do they use the VSS to determine actual vehicle speed?  Thanks.

They use VSS to determine actual vehicle speed. Once the nav has been initiated and has acquired its position the nav switches over to a system called dead reckoning. Basically it uses the VSS, reverse sense, and a gyro to tell you were you are going.

If you look to the left you will see a link "VSS and Tach Info". If you click there you will see another link to a site that has a ton of info for vss wire colors and location. At any rate you didn't include a year so you will have to use the link on your own.

Thanks for the response.  I looked at that link before I posted.  My 2004 was not listed.  I think that I found the location of the VSs using the wiring diagrams.  Thanks for the help.

Well all I could find is the info for 2003 and 2005. It could be the same so give it a shot.

2003
Speed Sense-brown-instrument cluster

2005
Speed Sense-brown-cluster or ETACS, 15 pin plg, pin 10
Notes: The ETACS (Electronic Time and Alarm Control System) module is behind the radio.

Thanks for looking that up.  One more quick question.  Was there a difference for the EX and LX models?  I have an EX.  Thanks again.

Craig, I sent you a PM.  If possible, could you post the location that you found for the VSS wires?  I am having the same trouble finding the wires.

Thanks for your help!

I didn't try the info for the 2003 or 2005 , I have a 2004 also- I found info on the web that it was behind the glove box, but no luck there.  Any luck on your end?
