Hello,

I tried to install this 5.6" 12-volt LCD monitor today in my car, but whenever I connected it to the +12v after a while it would blow out one of my fuses. What am I doing wrong? I'm not mixing up positive and negative lines.

Where are you grabbing the power from ? Personally I would use the ignition harness wires for power instead of any from the fuse box.

I'm getting the power from the stereo +12v wire. I tested the monitor by hooking it up to a fused 30A straight-from-battery 10 gague wire... could i have damaged the monitor by doing that?

The LCD's specsheet shows:

Power source: DC 12V +/- 10%

Power consumption: <7.2 W

Where are you grounding the monitor to ? Also there is usually 3 or 4 wires on monitors, what do you have the other wires hooked up to ?

I'm grounding it to this (12 gague?) probably 1/8th dia. thick ground wire that is bolted deep into my car's chassis in the center console. The same ground wire that my stereo connects to. So basically i'm giving it the same power source and the same ground loop as my stereo.

Also, if the monitor only uses less than 7.2W, shouldn't it draw around 0.5A-0.6A max? If that is so, how did it blow out my 10A fuse that my radio was on? It also blew out a 0.5 amp fuse that was in series with the 10A fuse (i.e. fuse panel 10A fuse - > radio wire in dash - > 0.5A fuse -> radio). When i would connect it before the 0.5A fuse it would blow out the 10A fuse. When i'd connect it after, it blew out the 0.5A.

I just got my new Pyle PLDTV122 deck in today so i can swap out my old stereo for this new one. I'd like to have my monitor working though... as it is GUI driven posted_image .

On a side note thank you very much for your time and helping me troubleshoot this problem.

Oh yeah, and this monitor only has 2 wires. One white, one black. The white is getting the +12v, the black is getting ground.

by the way, you wouldn't know where i could get ahold of a tach wire on a 1993 mitsubishi diamante ES would you? I want to install a remote starte alarm system. If it is too hard to find i may just use the alarm's voltage sense feature. Thanks!

I've been told to try the igintion wire that goes to the stereo inside the dash. I dont see why i would need to though. It shouldn't be drawing that many amps if it only consumes < 7.2W.
