Hello, For the last three weekends I have been installing a complete video system in my 2000 Ford Excursion. (components listed below) Today I ran power to all the components and got everything up and running. I do have a couple questions though on some problems I am having with system and would hope that someone here can help me get this system working properly.

Pyle DVD/TV Player/Tuner, Jensen HiFi VCR, XO Vision Audio/Video Control unit, Dual Channel Wireless Headphones, XO VIsion FM Modulator, Two 6" Legacy Headrest mounted LCD's, Powered antenna for TV Tuner.(The Audio/Video Control unit allows four source inputs and three outputs all of which can be controlled separately with a separate wired remote)

1.) The picture output two both LCD's seems to be washed out a bit with VCR playing. What can I do to get a better picture?

2.) Picture is extremely washed out while playing DVD Player. Barely can see picture, How can I improve the DVD output?

3.) Very poor Reception while using TV Tuner, I do have a powered antenna connected.

4.) Most ofthe electronics are under the second row seat, How do you pro's organize all the wires so they are not all tangled and wrapped around each other?

5.) If there are alot of wires tangled around each other would this effect the signal to LCD screens? If so how do you get all those wires in order?

6.) I will be putting a third LCD monitor in truck, would a signal amplifier help the poor signal I am currently getting at the monitors?

1.) The picture output two both LCD's seems to be washed out a bit with VCR playing. What can I do to get a better picture?

  • TRY changing out the video cable from the VCR to the processor/control unit. Also, make sure that your video and audio RCA wires are not in contact with any power wires from the car. At least minimize the contact if all possible. How are you splitting the video signal from the source units ?

2.) Picture is extremely washed out while playing DVD Player. Barely can see picture, How can I improve the DVD output?

  • Same as above. Also, make sure that your ground on all connections are solid, absolute and free of paint, dirt and grease.

3.) Very poor Reception while using TV Tuner, I do have a powered antenna connected.

  • Problem will be related to poor ground .

4.) Most ofthe electronics are under the second row seat, How do you pro's organize all the wires so they are not all tangled and wrapped around each other?

  • Wrap each harness wires together in black electrical tape. So if you have one harness with 3 wires coming off of it, wrap them altogether from the harness and then have them all connect at a common place with all the other wires. Takes some planning but in the end it all comes together and looks good to boot. You can hide most of the rats nest with split tube looming .

5.) If there are alot of wires tangled around each other would this effect the signal to LCD screens? If so how do you get all those wires in order?

  • Same as above Question # 1 & 2.

6.) I will be putting a third LCD monitor in truck, would a signal amplifier help the poor signal I am currently getting at the monitors?

  • Try the other suggestions before you try to band-aid fix the problem.

Jeff, As always you are very helpful, thank you for the help. I will be back out in the garage tomorrow morning and will check things you suggested. I will let you know if I need more help.  The XO Vision audio/video control unit allows you to connect up to three video outputs(LCD monitors) directly into the unit and four video inputs. This unit completely controls all video inputs and outputs with three separate wired remote controls.

Does this particular switcher require a ground and switched ignition wires connected ? Make sure of the ground wire as well as the power wire has sufficient current.

Yes the switcher unit does have a red(power) and black(ground) lead which I have connected to power and ground. I will check current tomorrow also..I assume somewhere between 12v and 16v is O.K.???

I have power coming in from battery using 4 gauge wire leading to a distribution block (monster cable) Then there are four outputs 8 gauge leading off of distribution block to each souce unit.  The XO Vision controll unit has power connections for LCD monitors incorporated right on the unit itself and power can be switched on and off to the monitors using the remote controls. Also I do have a Infinity Basslink powered subwoofer in back of truck which is taking power off this one power lead coming from battery. Subwoofer works fine even at high volume and I do not notice any diming of lights or anything odd like that.
