I went to Best Buy yesterday and was told that if the AVIC N1 was updated w/ the new navi update disc, then the video would be shut off just like the N2.  On that note, the video shut off seemed to be embedded in the software also.  I was then suggested that if an N2 could be "updated" with the N1 nav disc, then perhaps it would revert to N1 operation.  Just an FYI.

I dont believe the n2 will allow its software to be overwritten with the older version, but I am simply guessing here.

Well. Others have said before that an N1 that has been updated with the new disc would have to go back to Pioneer to revert back to the v1.2 so I highly doubt that an N2 would be able to be programmed with N1 software.  Maybe it's possible if you get Pioneer to clear out the OS completety and have the N1 software installed.  But why in the hell would you purchase an N2 and want N1 software?  You're probably gonna spend close to 2K if you purchase from an authorized dealer when you can spend only 1.5K for an N1 from an authorized dealer.

Like Cali said, an N2 with N1 software, would essentialy be an N1.

get the n1. the n2 does not add anything that is cool, it is more expensive, and you cannot watch video while driving. You can't change the software in the N2 because pioneer removed the ability for the unit to import data from the disc. The N1 however, has a raw data import function that can be used to upload hacked navagation disc data.   the old saying goes, newer is not always better.
