Hi, I'm relativley new to this site, although I have been using the wiring diagrams for a while. Anyways, heres my question. I'm looking for a flip out unit with navigation for my 93 Dodge Dakota. I drive this truck all over to shows and for trips, and would like to have navigation, and also have my wife be able to watch movies. The truck is an extended cab, but my 4 Kicker 10's and amps take up the extended portion. So, my only real option is to go with an indash system. I'm considering the Eclipse AVN-5434 or the Pioneer AVIC-N2. I've read that you can't watch video while you are driving with the N2, but what about navigation? Does that still work. And what about the Eclipse? Anyone have any opinions on the two? I know watching movies while driving is a contoversial topic, but my wife gets really bored riding from south florida to indiana/michigan/kentucky ect. for shows. I'm planning on hittinh Resolutions this year in cali hopefully and that is one long ass drive. Anyways, thanks for the info in advance.

go with the pioneer avicn1.  its close to the n2 and you can watch it will driving.  although there is a way to trick the n2 into working while driving, with video outputs plugged into video inputs, and a few other things

I've been wondering about this also. With the n1, can you load the nav disk into a dvd changer and have it still work? That way you could have the unit free to swap cd's or movies?

NO you cannot do that - the N1or N2 data discs are DVD-ROM's, not DVD Video discs. They are holding info in a data format, not a video one. The only DVD changer Pioneer currenly has is DVD Video, not DVD-ROM. You still have the IP-Bus available to add a 6 or 12-disc CD Changer to the system.

The video lockout doen not affect using the NAV DVD-ROM disc. Only applies to DVD-Video playback & external AV inputs.

If you want to have the NAV data available all the time w/o swapping discs, you need to get a seperate DVD/screen unit & seperate nav brain, i.e.. - AVH-P6600DVD or AVH-P5700DVD, and an AVIC-88DVD nav unit. The bad news - it cost almost DOUBLE to do it this way, but it is more flexible. That is why Pioneer made the N-series the way they did - 1 drive, lower price point to make it more affordable & easier to fit in more vehicles.

i'll agree with homer on all but one point. the "parking brake failsafe" does disable some of the navigation features that require extensive data entry.
