This is my first ever install on my wifes 2001 Suburbane. I have 2 7” Headrest monitors, DVD player and my Audiovox VCR. What I want to do is use the DVD and VCR with the headrests but I have some concerns

First for power, since I am running 2 LCD’s, DVD and FM Mod on one 12V line (I was just going to use a 12V switched line), can I splice off of all one wire for all these? Also, should I use a 12 gauge wire and where should I run it from? I read on here from the ignition wire, but I have no idea where this is. Is the ignition wire switched? Also, on this one 12gage wire, should I put one fuse inline, or do I need to have a fuse inline for each LCD, and DVD?

Also, does anyone forsee a problem with trying to run both the DVD and VCR going into the LCDs(using RCA Y cables for all of this) without a switch? Do you think I need an amplifier (a one input to four output)?

I was going to mount the DVD player in the center console. Anyone see an issue with doing this?

I would use a relay off of the 12V switched circuit. You can locate a switched 12V circuit in you steering column harness. Run a separate circuit, 14 ga should be plenty, through the relay to a distribution block. Power everything from there. Make sure your DVD is approved for multi-angle mounting. It wont operate properly if it isn't and you mount is pointing upward.

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking that I would run a relay (ordered on yesterday). I was actually going to run the switched line out of the fuse box using a tap (hope this is not a problem). I need to get a distribution block though. Any suggestions? Also, any suggestions on a good way to ground everything (near the console)?

Partsexpress.com has alot of wiring accessories. As for a ground, a metal brace under the dash if you can locate one that's accessible, or the firewall or floorpan are your best bets. Just be sure to knock the paint off and get a good connection. Ground problems can drive you crazy troubleshooting.
