I finally got enough information to figure out where to connect to my vehicles VSS wiring. (thanks - you know who you are). Is there some procedure to use in the AVIC to set up the VSS type? IE pulse, voltage, resistance etc... The unit does not see the speed signal as the VSS Pulse count on the Pioneer stays at zero. I did a complete reset of the AVIC and also cleared all of the data, mileage, pluses, sensor data, from the 3D-setup page. Still get ZERO pulse count on the connection status screen.
I know that I made a good connection to the VSS wire as I manually scraped a tiny bit of insulation from the wire before I installed a crimp/self piercing connector. Also I'm 99.99/100% sure I am connected to the right vehicle wire. But NA DA with the pulses. I guess I could test drive with a meter connected to the vehicle wire to confirm the pulse but again I'm sure I got the right wire. I don't know if Toyota uses a pulse or voltage or resistance though.
Any comments will be appreciated.

Test the wire going to the AVIC for a pulse from the connection that you made at the ECM. You will need to have the vehicle moving in order to test this wire.

Also dont use t-taps, solder the conection.
