I am not familiar with surround processors, I was wondering if they take an analog left right input and then put out surround sound output or if you can only get the surround sound with a digital input? Thanks for any help.

What I thought is that if you use the analog input it will use pro logic and create a 5.1 output, but if you use digital input it will have true 5.1 surround. Is this correct?

correct - most of them will create a "fake" 5.1 out of 2 channel.  With a processor, you get true 5.1 digital surround...

*Qualifier* - if the material was recorded in a 5.1 digital format - Dolby Digital or DTS, & passed as a digital signal to the processor.

Great catch, that is an important qualifier...
