What are your opinions?  Any losses or gains in one or the other (besides no video while driving - I'm an adult and don't really care)?  Does anyone know if the D1 has the ability to use the 5.1 decoders?

Thanks!

The N2 & D1 have better mapping software - more of the side streets are labled better, some buildings in bigger cities are listed by name, updated phone # listing, and the software to use XM Nav Traffic channels.

The D1 cannot "directly " use the 5.1 surround decoder because it doesn't have a digital audio output & it does not do DVD-Video playback in either of its 2 drives. Any connection for surround processing would be analog & then done in Pro Logic or Pro Logic II.

The D1 also does not do voice recognition to enter commands - touch screen or (optional) remote. IMHO - no great lose there, haven't seen one yet that worked better than 50% in a car anyway.

D1 Advantages(or disadvantages) - Double Din format fills larger dash openings found in newer vehicles(esp. SUV's), no moving screen to get in the way of gearshifts, vents, heater controls, etc., NO SWAPPING DISCS!!!

And is less expensive. (If you haven't figured it out by now, I like the D1...)

D1 can use pioneers DVD changer however through the AV bus and that changer has the required digital output for the 5.1 processor.
