If you want to go cheap, grab an Earthmate/Delorme Blue Logger. It has memory for 40,000 points and can be set to log data at specific time intervals (ie once a second) or only when the position changes by a set amount. You then use a computer with a Bluetooth adapter to download the data and plot it in the Delorme software.

It also doubles as a Bluetooth GPS. If you have a Bluetooth capable laptop or PDA, you can use Delorme navigation software on it in your car.

The Blue Logger has been hard to come by. Earthmate/Delorme has listed it as backordered for a month or two, but you can find them on eBay if you can't wait.
