I have a roadmate 700 and want it hardwired because that damn powercord is a sore sight. Is there anyway other than keeping that damn cig plug? I didn't think so only beacuse the imput ranges from 12-18 volts. If anyone knows a way around it that would be great.

sure; just keep the cig plug.  Unscrew the top and split it open and find where the outside contacts connect to the circuit board inside.  remove the contacts and solder a wire to the board in the hole where you just removed the contacts.  The tip is your positive and the ouside contacts will be your ground.  Once you do that; you will have a voltage converter with two wires coming off of it.  Connect to your favorite switched source and ground and voila!  You can just keep the cig plug behind the dash, wherever you run the wires.  I do this quite often with the Delphi SkyFi2 XM receivers, they have a 12V/6V converter in the plug.  Just be sure you fuse your positive wire; with this procedure you lose the fuse that is included in the cig plug.
