i was woundering if the dc/dc converter is needed to start the unit up. i recently moved and i lost the converter. i called alpine and they said its like 55 bucks(so i ordered it),but it wont be here until the end of august. is there any way the unit will work without the dc/dc converter?

This will not work without the converter. I wouldn't attempt it for the simple reason that you don't want to have to spend more money on repairng the CD player if there's damage to it because you didn't have the DC/DC converter.A DC-to-DC converter is a device that accepts a DC input voltage and produces a DC output voltage. Typically the output produced is at a different voltage level than the input. In addition, DC-to-DC converters are used to provide noise isolation, power bus regulation, etc.
