I installed a Sony 7" screen in my 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee and a PS2 in the back. In the middle console of the Jeep I installed a mobile DVD/MP3/CD player that I bought off eBay...it is installed in the back of the console where the slide-out cup holders were...When the screen is just on radio the picture is crystal clear, but when I switch the source to the PS2 or the other DVD player it gets horrible enigine noise. The static is not very bad when the engine is off, but if I rev up the RPMs it gets like the scrambled porno channels. I was wopndering if A) this is a common problem with mobile video (the picture distortion) or if B) there are some kind of filters to put on the power wire to get a better signal to the devices. I say a better signal because I plugged in my PS2 to the outlet in my garage, and then hooked it up the my Sony screen and it was PERFECT...which leads to me to believe that the power to the players off the battery is not very clear. PLEASE HELP ME...this is so very very frustrating after the expensive purchase!!!!

Where did you get your power for your dvd and ps2? Try powering it up off the ignition harness (make sure you fuse it) and hopefully that should solve your problem. If that still doesnt work you'll have to add a relay for direct power from your battery. That should work. If it still is giving you bad picture than you can have a bad battery, it will stall start your car but it wont filter out ripple from the alternator and if your dvd player is sensitive it will be noticeable. this can be fixed by just adding a filter in series with the power line of your dvd player. As far as sound, did you run the sound through an rf modulator? because when a ps2 is ran through an rf modulator it will give you the most horrible sound quality, running it directly though a stero that has an aux input will solve your sound problem. ------------- Mo-

Thank you... The power is directly from the battery to a distribution block where one lead goes to the power converter and then to the PS2 and the other lead goes to the DVD player in the middle console. No rf mod on the PS2 I already have it to the Aux input. As far as a filter for the power line, where do I get one of those, and how do you install it, and how well do you think it will work? I heard someone say that I need a video amplifier, but I had never heard of one of those either, will that help? I had another idea of just putting in one of those Optimal (sp) Batteries that they sell at car electronics stores...would that solve the static problem? THANK YOU EVERYONE!

Okay, just put in a power inline filter and still ENGINE NOISE! The last thing I guess is the problem is the battery itself...BUT when the car is ON but the engine is OFF the screen is fine...so is it the battery or the alternator? PLEASE HELP ME!!

Sorry, one more thing, if I did put in one of those Optimum (Optimal?)Batteries in the back of my Jeep with no alternator attached, how long would the battery last before it was dead?

Make sure that you are not running the VIDEO cable along side the power cable. The video signal is VERY sensitive to EMI and can distort the image if too close to a power source.

I ran the power down the driver side...and the video down the passenger side...they are far apart.
