I just purchased a 2005 Suburban with XM, ONSTAR, and 6disc in-dash CD and am considering buying a headrest DVD system made by a company called INVISION Industries.

http://www.invisiondealervideo.com/index2.html

Does anyone have experience with this system, good or bad?  It looks like a very cool setup, I just haven't seen any reviews on it yet.  I really like the players in the headrests (space saver), as well as having two separate players for the kiddos.

On the audio front, rather than using an FM Modulator to get sound to the speakers, I have found a an auxiliary input interface made by USA SPEC (Item: SVG707) that looks interesting,

https://www.mobilcaraudio.com/catalog/item/2084238/1476166.htm

It uses the  DVD Audio input of the factory radio, and the Radio display will read "RSE" just like the factory.   Does anyone out there have any experience/advice on this one?  Are there any others out there anyone would recommend over this one?

I have never done an install myself and would appreciate any tips out there.  I'm confident I can install the headrests, but am a little worried about pulling out the radio and installing the Aux Input Interface, given that my radio has the 6 disc changer, xm, and ONSTAR.  Does the unit just slide out the front, (the one in my 2002 Yukon XL was very simple), or is there another trick I should know about?    Also, is the socket for the CD AUX input already empty, so all I need to do is install the adapter, or do I need to unplug something first?  Lastly, what special care/precautions should I use to  avoid messing up my XM or ONSTAR?  Are they completely separate inputs?

Any feedback/advice would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance for helping out a newby!

I've heard Invisions were having an overheating issue with their built in DVD's, this is from another shop that a friend owns in another town.  He installed 3 sets(6 total) and has had to replace 5 units at least once.  I would recommend the Audiovox system if that is the set up you want.

Pull your dash bezel off, there are 3 7mm headed screws holding the radio in, I always remove the AC control to avoid scratching it, pull the radio out and there will be an antenna and  two plug ins, you won't mess any thing up if you don't start jerking harnesses,,,if not take it to a shop that is experienced in installing video units,,,that is what they're there for!

I use the PAC piece for the audio input but I'm sure the USA Spec piece is good as well,,,

Ctoh,  Thanks for the feedback.  After hearing about the overheating issues with the built in DVD's, I decided to play it safe and just get 7" EPIK headrest monitors, with a separate Clarion DVD player.  (I had the same set-up in my last vehicle, a Yukon XL, and never had a problem in the 4 years I had it).

It will be another week before it comes in, but I did recieve the USA SPEC adapter today, and I was successful in getting it installed by myself.  Just like you said, I took out the AC controls, removed the 3 screws on the radio, and it slid right out.  THe USA SPEC adapter was completely compatible with my 6disc in dash changer, XM, and OnStar.  To install it, you simply remove the 12 pin and 24 pin connectors, and plug them into the adapters harness.  The adapter harness then plugs into your radios 12 pin and 24 pin plug. A round din plug then runs to the adapter unit.  The adapter unit has one set of RCA's for your DVD output, and it also has a battery power output, and accessory power output for the DVD player as well.

The words "DVD" now are displayed on the screen of the radio, and to access the sound, you simply push the CD AUX button, and "RSE" (rear seat entertainment) is displayed.

I don't have the DVD player yet, so I tested the system with a portable CD player plugged into the RCA's and the sound was great.......no more FM MODULATORS for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Will let you know once the rest of the system is complete.  So far I would HIGHLY recommend the USA SPEC adapter over FM Modulation.  It was also the only adapter that I found that was completely seamless integration with the factory radio.
