hey everyone,

i purchased a dva 5205 secondhand.  it came with a remote.  the remote has a switch to go between audio and dvd.  when i switch it to audio it will control the volume and such other things on the cva 1005.  when i switch it to dvd it doesn't recognize anything on the remote.  this is particularly frustrating since i'm trying to play dvd's with a menu so i can't select play!

does anyone know what i'm doing wrong?  i searched a little and it seems that maybe i need a remote ir "eye".  is this the problem?  www.pacparts.com has

Part Number:01T15694Y04
Description:REMOTE RECEIVER(EXTERNAL)
Price:$25.56

listed under the dva 5205.  is this the peice i need?  where does this plug in... the back?

sorry for all of the questions... i'm trying to clear this issue up.  thanks in advance!

you need the remote eye for the DVD to work... also, on the CVA brain, there are two wires on the 4 pin plug that are WHITE/ brown.. those are remote in and a remote out wire.. if you take that remote out wire and connect it to the remote in (also WHITE/ brown) on the DVA 5205 you can work the DVD player without the remote eye, only you will not be able to listen to music such as the changer or the tuner and watch a DVD at the same time.

george - i tried using the method you suggested with the BROWN / white wires.  i tried both wires and hooked each one up to the WHITE/ brown on the dva with no luck.  maybe i should check for a remote eye?

Odd.. that should work.. are you sure you had it connected to the WHITE/ brown on the CVA Brain marked Remote OUT

I have done this before for people that have pulled out the system themselves and didn't take out the remote eye.

Make sure you are swtiching the remote to the DVD Function on the side of the remote.. (Do you have the DVD remote or just the CVA remote?  The CVA remote will have Audio/Nav on the side of it.. the DVD Remote will have Audio/DVD for the switch on the side.. check that also)

well, on my cva brain there's the small plug and it has three wires on it.  there's the yellow with stripe (i forget which color but it's for one of the brakes).  There's also two white / browns.  On the CVA itself it says that on is for Remote out aux 1 and the other for remote out aux 2.  there is a pin for remote in but there is no wire attached.

i tried hooking up each wire to the dva's WHITE/ brown with no success with either.  i do have the dva remote with the audio/dvd switch.  when i switch it to audio i can hear adjust volume and other audio adjustments but when i switch it to dvd i get nothing.  the led lights up when i press the buttons but nothing works as far as button presses.

am io doing something wrong?
