Hello all!!  Just had my AVN5435 installed in my 2001 Oldsmobile Aurora with the back up camara and the Sirius sattelite antenna.  Although I love all of my new toys, for some reason my AVN5435 is making a weird sound even when no discs are in any of the drives.  It sounds like something is working really hard on the inside of the unit.

Does anyone have this same problem?  If so, what is it and what did you do about it.

Other than that everything works great..........

In addition to the above.... my chimes are real loud and sometimes my chimes stay on when they shouldn't be!!  Any thoughts on what this could be?

Anyone who has had a AVN5435 installed that is having any types of problems.... I would like to know about them!

Come on now...... there has to be someone out there that has an AVN5435?

UPDATE: The noise coming from the head unit has gone away........ I'm still a little curious though as to what it could be.   I have a feeling this noise will come-and-go.

The noise you refer to:  Is this with the navigation disc in?  If so you are hearing the Nav compute data and load POI.  As far as the chirps being loud, I have the same problem.  I feel it is because I'm putting a high output amp inline with a factory amp.  I can almost live with it, but I will probably use some sort of adjustable low-high converter in the near future.

The Navigation disc is not loaded nor is any CD.  The noise does come and go, so I'm thinking about going back to the installer and getting a new one.  Eclipse says its not a normal characteristic.

I am running a factory Bose Amp so that is probably why my chimes are real loud!!  I can almost live with it too.

Do you have any problems with chimes.... Example: If you start your car with the door open (the chimes will go on).... then close the door....  (the chimes will stay on).

What about when you turn your car off........... does the AVN stay on?  Mine should stay on while the car is off only until I open the door.  But sometimes when I open the door the AVN stays on.  It's a pain in the ass!!

Where did you mount your Navigation transmitter?

QUESTION:

I am unable to get titles to display on my new AVN5435.  This is for AM/FM radio stations, also no station call letters.  I know this info is available from my previous radio.  Also CDs from the in-dash player and the CD changer do not display title info. Oddly, the title info does display for MP3s and Sirius. There is a TITLE button on each of these screens, but when pushed, the only thing displayed is a screen with captions indicating where this info should be.  Anyone else experieince this and have you found an answer?

ANSWER:

Funny thing you should ask this question.  I've been wondering the same thing!!!  I was reading up in all 3 manuels because I could of sworn it said something along the lines of, WMA files and CD's could display text.  Did you read anything like that?  All I can get is the MP3 and Sirius to display text too.

I sent the following E-mail to Eclispe...

I rencently had an AVN-5435 installed in my Corvette.  I have some questions which my dealer was unable to answer...

1.  Is there a way to avoid responding to the Navigation "Agree" prompt every time I turn the unit on?  I would be willing to sign a disclaimer in order to avoid this nuisence.

2.  Is there a way to operate the Navigation with guidence and NOT have the Audio mode on?

3.  Is there a setup option to get radio station/title info to display?  The manual says to use the "Title" button, but this does not seem to work.

4.  Can the clock be displayed when both the AUDIO and NAV displays are off?

Here is their response..

Thank you for contacting Eclipse:

The agree message cannot be taken off unfortunately.

You can have the the voice on or off. You have to go into menu on the right side, than setup and on the left side there are scroll arrows. punchdown once and the screen will have the listing: voice guidance in all modes. You can set that on or off.

The radio text only works on the satillite radio or hd radio functions not on fm. It was a big goof on the manuals part. It did not clarify this. The buttons should not have displayed on fm, only hd and satellite.

And unfortunately the time will not come on the navigation and audio off screen. I'm sorry.

Nathan
Avn/Avx

I don't believe the response about the doc error.  That doesn't explain why the screen has a "TITLE" button and when you push it you get another screen with nothing but captions and empty space where the info should be.

Oddly I have a similar noise, sounds like a relay opening and closing, but mine seems to be coming from the CD changer behind the pass. seat.  Also my CD drive in the main unit was DOA, so I had to have the unit replaced the next day.  New unit works great.

My chimes are very loud also, dealer says there is no volume adjustment.  Also all the beeps and chimes sound different but I will get used to them.  I also have the Bose system.

My chimes will sound when I start the car with the door open, but I discovered it is because I have not fastened the seat belt.  If I fasten the belt before I start the car there is no chime.

I do not have any issues with the unit turning off.  It continues to play until I open the door unless I stay in the car too long.  This is working exactly like the factory radio.

you say there's a noise that sounds like somethings working really hard, i personaly would check the ground for the unit, i've seen bad ground wires do many strange things and make many strange noise's

By DOA, I mean nothing worked in the CD drive.  It would draw the disk in and then displayed a message to check the CD.  I tried this with regular CDs as well as MP3s.

I get title info for MP3s but not regular CDs. I know the CDs contain title info because my old unit displayed the title info.

My CD and DVD drives seem to be about the same speed when loading and ejecting.  I know the DVD goes though a software initialization when you load the Nav DVD, maybe this is why it seems slower.

The one thing I really hate is that I must "AGREE" to the lame warning screen each time I power up the Navigation. Talk about CYA.

Posted By: aurora4.0
Date Posted: August 18, 2005 at 7:37 AM

Yeah, the AGREE message is very annoying.   There is nothing we can do about it though......Eclipse says.

I'm also getting what appears to sound like feedback coming out of my front right speaker.   It sounds like a buzzing noise.  Also when I accelerate my speed, the noise becomes a higher pitch.  Anyone have an idea to what this could be?

I have not been able to get regular CD's to show information either.  I am positive that somewhere in the manuals it says it does...  I'll have to keep reading!!

I just got another response from Eclipse stating that the titles work automatically for some CDs. I have tried about a dozen of mine, some old, some new, with no success.

Additional info for the AVN5435, 95.  Be advised, if you add the CD changer, it does NOT play MP3 discs, only standard audio CDs.  The CD drive in the head unit does play MP3s.

When I had my AVN installed I made sure that the installer would make my factory steering wheel controls work.  They had to install a little LED "eye" in my center console to transmit the information from my steeringwheel to the unit.  Sometimes my steering wheel controls work, and sometimes the don't.

Does anyone know what this could be?

(and yes..... I've made sure there is nothing in the way of the LED "eye". to transmit the information)

You are using infrared to control the radio.  The IR works great but requires certain conditions to be met.  The condition you are probably experiencing when it doesn't work is increased amount of ambient light on your radio.  You should begin to notice the darker the car is, the better response you get from your steering wheel control.  You could also try to locate the emitter closer to the deck as the amplitude of the IR signal dimenishes as the distance increases.  I put mine right on the bezel of the stereo about 1/2" away from the IR receiver.  It works flawlessly unless the radio is washed out with sunlight.  What brand steering wheel interface did you get?

OK, the problem with the door chimes and the radio staying on sounds like you have a defective databus 2 by pass module. I suggest going to where you got it put in and asking them to exchange it, also as for the chimes being loud, request they mount the box upside down and it will quite the sound. The CD text is only availible on select discs and they are definatly many more that dont have it than those that do. I dont know about the radio station names though. With the infared eye, is this actually in a corvette and if it is, is it a convertable. Those modules require carefull placement in convertables because the sun completly ****s with them. And they installer wont even know its a problem unless he takes the car outside with the roof down. Hope something here helps.

Has anyone noticed if the display dims when the headlights are on?  There is a connection for the headlights, but mine does not seem to work.  Furthermore when you press the DISP button, the owner's manual says there should be a "DAY" button to switch the brightness between day and night intensity.  I don't have this button either.

I don't think you have the connection made for the dimmer to work.  My "DAY" button only is available when my headlights are on.

I brought my car back to the installer and had them fix a couple things.  As I mentioned before, my chimes were way to loud...... they fixed this problem by wrapping the module with a piece of carpet to muffle it.  Also, my unit would not dim when the automatic lights went on..... they had a wire connected in the wrong spot.  I have no more complaints now about this whole installation.

The AVN5435 is just awesome!!

Is there a way while using the Navigation to completely mute the stereo so all that is coming out of the speakers is the ladies voice telling you where to go?

Yes, press the MUTE button, it kills the music but not the nav voice.  However, you cannot get the nav voice with the PWR switch off, it probably uses some part of the audio circuit for the voice.

I agree, it is awesome.  But as always, I'm never completely satisfied, I wish they had put the clock display on the "AUDIO OFF" screen.

Back to an earlier question I had......

I have a raspy noise coming out of my front right speaker, and when I accelerate the car the raspy noise gets higher in pitch.   Does anyone know what this could be?  i.e. the speaker or crossed wires?

This problem comes and goes sporadically, but recently it's decided to stay around for a while.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Sounds like ignition interference.   Normally they install resistors to deal with this.  I personally do not have this issue, my sound is excellent (at least to me it is).  I suggest you take it back to your installer, they should know how to deal with it.

Has anyone hooked up a bluetooth device to the AVN5435? If so, how did you do it?

was your installer authorized by eclipse? i would assume so since you spent so much money but it sounds like they missed quite a few things. i had a single din eclipse a few years back with similar noise problems and the unit was just installed wrong, called eclipse and they paid for me to have it installed somewhere else. way to many common issues that your describing. hopefully you can get it fixed.

I have a Motorola IHF1000 installed in my car.  Since there is no external mute connection to the AVN5435, my installer connected the mute line from the IHF1000 to a relay which turns the external amp on and off.  This effectively mutes the sound without turning off the HU.  This was possible because my Corvette has a Bose system which uses an external amp.  The only negative of this arrangement is that you cannot hear the navigation audio if you are on the phone.  I assume this would work with any external amp.

If you don't have an external amp you could have the relay kill the power to the unit.  This is a poor solution because you not only lose the audio but also the navigation display.  Also when the power is restored you have to respond to the annoying "I Agree" screen.

Hope this helps.

I'm looking into getting the AVN5435. Just wondering if I can get some feedback on how the unit is? Will I be able to control the Navi full features while I'm driving? Will I be able to watch video while the car is in motion as well. I know its dangerous!!!! Is the bypass like the Avic N2 or is it just grounding the parking brake lead? Any help will be greatly appriciated. Thanking you in advance.

Does anyone know if you can make the Navigation keyboard a "QWERTY"?  Or is there only the traditional "ABCDEFG"?  I would love to be able to switch to the "QWERTY" style.

Me too, but I think we're out of luck.  Maybe with the new DVD disk that's coming out in January.
