Alpine sometimes pre-ships to certain dealers after the product gets out of QC, kind of Guinea Pigging it. A couple of dealer friends of mine in LA have done this. Alpine's FAX on a release date said Sept., a buddy of mine done in Alpine customer service confirmed this. Was just seeing if anybody got pre shipped.

Man, i have put my system on hold because im waiting for the new alpine stuff!

ive been trying to put a system in my truck since june. i was going to do the alpine 901 head unit and the nav. the 901 was on sale at my local dealer for $1500 (regular price about $2400!!!). i asked why it was so cheap and they said two reasons; its getting discontinued, and also thats our last one on display. we are waiting for the new stuff - its supposed to be SICK!

so, since ive heard all this new hype on the new alpine nav and the new line of equip, ive been putting up with my stock piece of crap! im sick of it, and i have the money in my hands already to give to alpine for new products! please hurry alpine!

i would also like any feedback posted after you guys see/try out the new alpine nav. this would be great help to me! cause if it sucks, ill just get last years model on ebay for half price. haha posted_image

lets hear all feedback posted in this thread guys!

my friend works at alpine and tests the new nav unit, he says it is way better than the current unit. If you can hold out and wait for it it will be worth it.

Shoot.  If I would have known about this forum a couple weeks ago, I would have bought my 872 from you.  Anyways, since I couldn't find it, I picked it up on ebay for $1500.  Seller had good feedback and offered a 1 year warranty.

I upgraded from the N852A which I just put up on ebay.  Anyways, I'm having some problems with the 872:

I have it connected to the IVA-D310.  The audio mix function isn't working too well.  I have the nav mix turned on.  It's supposed to lower the audio and overlap the voice guidance.  It doesn't do that.  Instead it mutes the system and chops off the 1st half of the guidance.

My 852A didn't give me any problems, I know how to set up the audio, and I'm using the same wiring.  I've hit the reset button on the 852A to no avail.  Next I disconnected the battery for about 10 min... that didn't work.  Finally, I unplugged all accessories to the brain and now just running the D310 & 872A.  I unplugged the battery for the evening.  We'll see what happens in the morning.

Any suggestions?

Figured it out with Alpine's tech support.  I had the mute wire of the nav connected to my cell phone's mute signal.  I also had the mute wire connected to my IVA-D310 headunit.  The IVA-D310 controls all mute functionality for my cell.  I had to cut the mute wire from my nav and all is well.  Funny that I didn't have this problem with my NVE-N852A.

So far I like the 872 much more over the 852.  The graphics are in line with other recent nav units.  The only thing that became worse was were the voice prompts.  The quality is much worse than the 851/852.

And for anybody who's curious about disabling the parking brake protection - it's the same process as the old units.  I'm still using my old electronic PAC device to bypass.  Thanks Alpine!!

My proplem im having is when it mutes the audio on my d310 i dont hear any voice nav. My mute wire from the nav is not connected to anything. I do have the PXA-H701 installed with my D310 im think its in there somewere. Maybe someone has an idea?

Just got off the phone with Alpine, and you need the Alpine HCE-100XM in order to receive XM NAVTRAFFIC data.  This unit will debut at CES in January, and will be made available "hopefully" soon after.  The HCE-100XM will have a pass through for XM Radio data.  So I guess...this elminates the need for two antennas.

Turn off "interrupt" on the D310.  Turn on "nav mix" on the D310.  Then play with the volume whenever the voice from the nav unit kicks in.

Still dont have any sound from the Nav.
When i disconnect the PXA-H701 it all works fine.

I'd call Alpine's tech support Monday morning.  They were a big help when I called them a couple weeks ago.  Let us know how it turns out.

Hi guy, updating you.
I talked with Alpine tech support yesterday. Since i have the PXA-H701 and IVA-D310, for the NVE-N872A to work you have to have the KCE-900E unit and connect the guide control cables that is discribed in the PXA-H701 manual page 40. I have my alpine dealer order one for me, should take couple days to get in. when i get it in ill let you know would it goes.

If any of you guys are still around I have a couple quesitons:

I have the NVE852a but I upgraded the software.

I should still be able to get real time updates shouldn't i?

and other than voice control what am I missing out on by not having the new unit? (also other than the satellite connection upgrade 8 -> 12)
