Does anyone know if the new slim PS2 that comes with the outboard 120-8.5v transformer can be adapted to run of 12 volts. If so whats the nessasary materials need to acomplish such a feat

yes it does use dc voltage to the unit itself the box on the power cored is a transformer from ac to dc. all you need to do is check the out put of the transformer to the unit and duplacate that voltage its probably 12v but could be something like 9v. so just check the operating voltage in dc then resist accordingly. keep in mind the amps that it pulls and a inline resistor from your 12v power supply will be fine.  50 ohm resistor will reduce voltage by 1v 100ohm resistor will reduce by 2v etc..etc...just keep the amperage in mind and get out to your local radio shack or even better a eletronics dis. lol

sorry didnt see the specs you had wrote the unit needs to see 8.5 dc volts so a 175 ohm resistor will work inline on the power side from your battery. just make sure it can handle the amperage the ps2 requires a 5 to 10 watt rated resistor should be fine . lol

hi:

you can use this adapter, take it apart and hard wire it into your system

or if your any good w/ wiring/electronics, you can try this...

This wont work w/ the PS2 slim however, since the power source on that is external like a laptops.....so i guess this is useless......

I've done the mod found in... https://www.asdffdsa.net/projects/ps2.htm and can say that it works if done properly. I had to special order the voltage regulator.

ya but that project on that website is for an older ps2 with the converter inside of the unit. the new slim ps2 does not that why there able to make it a slim line one and all that unit needs to see is 8.5vdc so if you used that project it was over kill and shouldn't work right
