so i read a few posts about stuffing a 6.4" screen in the factory "pocket" of a nissan 350z, does anyone know of any links to see some pics? has anyone personally done this before? i havent had a chance to dig into the car yet to see how much has to be done in order to make this work.
thanks

I put a Kenwood LZ-6500W 6.5" WIDE SCREEN montior in my 2003 350z. Not only did it look nice, but when the car was traded in (yes, I had to part with my baby...family reasons) it got me an extra 2 grand for trade.
How to go about this: First, nothing can be crammed or stuffed into that "pocket", a monitor has to be installed behind it. The installation really is not that tough and you get a clean, beautiful look however. Theere is only one thing that you need from a hardware store and that is caulk, temperature rating over 140 degrees for those hot summer days. I used GE Household glue/caulk. The process is quite simple. Nissan's are pretty much all held together by plastic clips and Phillips #2 screws. When you open up the "pocket" there is a small piece of rubber mat that has to be removed, revealing two screws. Remove those. Start working the plastic fascia plate (the instrument panel) clips out by using a thin bladed flat head screw driver (make sure not to nick anything as this is exteremely easy to do). Once the fascia pops off, remove the cable connecting your heater controls and illumination (These cables are very sensitive so be careful with them.) Now the small difficulty in this operation...
The monitor is actually going to be behind the "pocket" but all vision and controls will be perfectly placed so you get a real James Bond look. Press the monitor up to the hole of the "pocket" and caulk like mad around the sides. To get this centered, and so the monitor will not move while you are caulking, it may be best for you to tape the monitor in place from the front (just be careful you do not put too much pressure on the monitors LCD screen. Once the caulk cures (usually 24-36 hrs) put everything back as you took it apart.
This is an easy installation and will look beautiful...just as if it was supposed to be there in the first place.
Hope this helps.
