I am interested in installing a pc in a car rather than paying out the butt for a seperate gps setup [$150 rather than $1000] or mp3 player [free rather than $300+]. I've found some stuff, but nothing that looks good.
I wanted to know what obstacles there are from an expert installers point of view. Does anyone have links to someone who has done this before?

You have a good point right there, that's why I got me and installed a Clarion AutoPC (autopc got discontinued btw and clarion does not do tech support on this unit no more) I paid about $550.00 for it 2 yrs. ago including the GPS and softwares and it was a good deal at that time.
Everthing is voice operated and you can customize voice commands. I also installed an MP3 player software on it
Anyway, I installed everything myself and it's pretty much a breeze. I'm not a PRO installer btw
I'm just so into it and have been installing car-audio systems since `84
Lastly... Anyone out there has Navtech Map Data Base? maybe we can trade back-ups
Before I forget... you can get the AutoPC for under $400.00

ITs easy man! I have an NEC lab top installed in my car and the sound I hooked up to the RCA input of my car so I can play MP3 musics and stuff!
Then If I need a map, MY wireless mobile phone also helps me go to the internet for a map!
But Right now I am looking for a GPS that can also interface with my Lab top so I can have the exact function as most Navagation systems!
