Has anyone put a indash dvd player in to a 2001 Ford Escape.  I have read on other forums that the column shift lever is abnormally long and I am trying to figure out if it would interfere with the screen sliding out.   The dvd player would be the pioneer avh-5700dvd.  If anyone here has installed one of these, knows if it would work or has a solution to this problem please let me know.  Thanks.

Quite a few vehicles have the same problem but there are ways around it. Set the Pioneer unit's "Flap Back Set" or something like that to OFF so that it doesn't automatically slide out by itself. Manually press the open button when the gear selector is not in the way.

Or...

You could trade the AVH-P5700DVD in for Kenwood's DDX-7017 double din unit that takes up the whole OEM opening & wouldn't interfere with the gear selector. Both have the same features... although the DDX might have a bit more & it looks better in the dash IMO.

It can be done but how much are you willing to pay?

I put a double din unit in an 05 model which is the same opening and I think it looks great.  All you have to do is trim the sub-dash a little bit to get the unit in but it works out well.  This is what I would recommend.

Good Luck!

Is the opening in the 02 escape a double din or is it only 1.5 din
