Has anyone tried locating the AVIC-D1 antenna in the XM module housing located on the roof of a GM vehicle? What I'm saying is remove the existing XM antenna from the housing on the roof and replace it with the AVIC antenna.
Is this a difficult operation? I have a Chev. Tahoe and would like to do this if possible. Also, I would like to locate the GEX-P10XMT antenna there also.
Thanks,
George

I've heard that it works for the really easy for the Cobalt so I would assume it to be the same. Sounds like a good idea.

Thanks for your reply.
It appears that it will work, as "useridzero" has a very detailed instruction on a post I just came across (see below).

I will be locating both antennas in the XM housing over the weekend and will reply with the results. I used to have the antennas located just under the upper dash trim panel but found receiption in some circumstances less than optimal.

Does your factory XM antenna have 1 terminal or 2?
If it's got 1 then you could use that for your new XM tuner instead of gutting it. Just a thought to save you time....
I've done plenty replacement XM installs this way

It can be done but how much are you willing to pay?
dsime,
I'm not sure, how do I tell? The vehicle is a 2005 Chev. Tahoe. If it has 1 terminal could you tell me how I can use the existing antenna?
Thanks,

Well, I am using the factory XM antenna now as suggested "dsime". After dropping the headliner and unbolting the factory antenna I could see that this was going to be a little more involved than I would like. Anyway, the XM radio is located below the glove box (2005 Tahoe). The antenna is a single brown wire. Simply remove the yellow plastic cover and plug into the Pioneer GEX-P920XM (see photo).
I removed the upper dash trim panel and mounted the GEX-P920XM underneath. This is the easiest way I've found the work on the entire install, not difficult to remove and opens everything up so wires can be secured properly.
