My N1 started acting up today.  Most of the buttons on the faceplate are not responding.  I cannot switch tracks, tilt the screen, bring up the EQ menu, or switch sources.  The only things that work are the volume and the eject buttons.

Anyone else ever heard of this problem?  The warranty is expired (of course)  Can anyone suggest a fix?  Thanks in advance.

I had the same problem... (intermittant button operation followed by a screen that started going blank) all caused by a ribbon cable. Couldn't locate the cable anywhere, had to send it out for repairs.
Only 2 real options after much searching:
Send it to Pioneer for $200, they'll fix anything and warranty it for a year. Wait time as much as 2 or 3 weeks

Send it to an outfit on E-bay, they'll fix it for 120, with a turn-around time of approx 2 days.

I went with the E-bay place- I'm very satisfied. Not only did I get a better price, but much quicker service.

So there is no place that sells just the ribbon cable?  It looks like that would be an inexpensive part and a fairly simple fix.  Also, my unit is a little over a year old - am I going to have to replace this ribbon cable every year?

I couldn't find it, nor could I convice PIONEER to sell it to me. I hope you have better luck than I.

Just got my N1 back from the guy that does repairs on eBay.  Shipping took a little longer than expected, but the unit is working like new again.  I highly recommend them over pioneer.
