Can someone please tell me the vss and the rear brake light hookup for a pioneer n2 at any location in a 1996 Chevrolet Suburban. Also, outside of these two wires, is the hookup pretty much standard for this radio. Once again,Thanks.

The VSS wire can usually be found in the factory radio plug. It is the GREEN / WHITE wire. You shouldn't need the brake wire for the N2 but it is the white or light blue wire at the brake switch above the brake pedal. If you meant the parking brake wire, then it should be the light blue wire off the parking brake assembly above the driver's kick panel. Purchase a wiring harness plug for your vehicle and it will make all the other connections a snap to do. You will also need an antenna adaptor to plug the factory antenna into your Pioneer radio.

I have a few questions for a pioneer n-2 install. I wanted to see if there was a reverse wire anywhere near the radio harness and if not where is the closest one located? Second is the speed wire and vss the same wire? How do you check it? I tried the continuity method with a ground and touching the vss wire but it didnt work register. Do I need to be moving? Can I get some assistance? Also, how do I check the reverse light? Sorry for all the qustions. Trying to install myself and scared as he ll. Radio shop wants $250 and trying to save some holday money. Thanks in advance.

VSS signal is AC Volts. It increases with tire rotaion. similar to a tach signal but it reads the actual rotaion of the tires instead of the engine rpm.

You may be able to find the reverse wire in the dash around the conveince center located near the driver's side kick panel. It looks like a fuse box. If it is there, it should be a light green wire which goes to 12 volts when the transmission is put into reverse with the ignition on. The speed wire and the VSS (Vehicle A/c signal which will register on a volt/ohms meter when the vehicle is moving forward. If the original radio had Speed Control Volume ( SCV switch on the volume control) the dark GREEN / WHITE wire in the radio harness is the one you need. It can also be found in the plug in the instrument cluster.
