I am looking at getting the AVIC-88 with the stand alone monitor, so I can keep the factory head unit. I called Pioneer and asked what software it uses and I was told it is the same as the N1. They also said the same upgrade software is needed to get the new maps. Will this also enable the lock of nav functions when in motion? Pioneer said yes, but he did not sound confident in his answer. If it does turn on the lockout, does anyone have a bypass for it? I don't care about movies, I don't even think it plays them. Just want NAV funstions when driving.

The upgrade for the AVIC88 is the same software as the N2.  The model number is CNDV50MT.  It does not affect the bypass at all.  All navi functions will work as long as it was bypassed in the first place

Ok, so that means it will lock the unit when I upgrade. Bummer. Does anyone have a bypass for this model? If not, I guess I gotta go with the Clarion NICE.
