Need to find VSS wire for 89 RX-7 in order to hook up Autosound (Speed sensitive volume) for Blaupunkt Acapulco MP52 head unit.

Don't think pre 90 models had a VSS

Hmm, I thought it did.  I've done some investigation on the wiring diagrams for the car and found a wire (G/R if that matters) that goes between the instrument cluster and the cruise control brain which I suspect might be VSS or similar.  It also has speed sensitve power steering which, it was my understanding, is VSS controlled.

I wonder if it would be safe to experiment with tapping the headunit VSS lead into the wire I found on the wiring diagram.  Anybody have any opinions on this?

(I'll probably to it anyhow - can't resist the temptation.)

Use a volt meter set on an A/C voltage scale and measure from a good ground to the wire while moving forward. If you get an A/C signal you should be good to go.
