okay here's what's going down:
I installed a myron&davis all-in-one video system into an 05 grand cherokee a couple months ago. apparently the vehicle has been in the shop for a lot of electrical problems lately.
The vehicle stays running when the key is removed from the ignition, the brakes are failing and who knows what else.
They told the customer that they have traced the problem down to the fact that I didn't scape off all of the paint when i grounded the video system.
WTF?
i've been installing for a long time and i've never heard of anything like this.

#1 i'm sure the ground is fine, i always ground in the driver's kick away from any other grounds with a star washer
#2 even if it is a poor ground, at the most it would only cause componenets directly related to the video system to have problems.

so what's up guys? am i just an ass-clown that doesn't know what he's doing or is someone trying to pull a fast one on me?

I don't think that having a bad ground on the video system could in anyway possible cause a problem with any system in the vehicle. It would be time to talk to the dealership and find out what moron said this and what his qualifications are.

absurd! if there was in fact a poor ground connection less power would be available to the video unit, and less of a loading effect on other circuits. hence the other circuits would see all available power.
giving the shop "the benefit of doubt" let us suppose for a moment that is the cause, let them prove it. let them repaint the metal, reapply the ground wire. the electrical system symptoms will return.

haha, working for circuit city I've had to deal with many "The dealer said..." situations. I've clowned many technicians in my day. And being a former dealership certified technician those guys should have known better than blindly give a diagnosis. Don't let them slide bro, teach those guys a lesson.

*UPDATE*
after doing some research and contacting the dealer and the technician directly rather than what the customer backfed to me over the phone, it turns out that a faulty power filter was feeding residule power into the accessory wire at the ignition and allowing the vehicle to run after the key was removed. because only one ignition wire was maintaining power with the key removed it was throwing all kinds of trouble codes to the computer resulting in multiple missdiagnosis.
we are still trying to get a hold of the customer to set up a time for them to come in and let us resolve the issue completely.

Well that makes more sense. Throw a 6A diode inline and be done.
