Ok, I have installed several CD Players in numerous cars. Now it has come time for me to get a touchscreen in my car. I went to the local shop today and they said it would be about $500 to install the TV! There is no way I am going to pay that much to have it installed. It will probabaly be in a 2002 Monte Carlo so the stock CD Player will be rerouted ot the truck. Can someone tell me if it is hard to install a touchscreen in the dash, something like the N2. Thanks for the info.

No its basically the same as installing a deck. For installing a system with navigation such as the N2 you will have to find some extra wires, such as vss and parking brake. Im a little confused as to why you would think you have to reroute your stock cd player to the trunk... If you are putting a system such as the N2 it will have all of the audio processing and amplification that your stock deck has (obviously quite a bit more).

With Monte Carlo's, the onstar, factory alarm, and oil sensor, amongst other things are run within the stock cd player, I can get a bypass for the onstar, but I want to keep all my options with the car.

I believe a GM databus by-pass designed for OnStar will take care of all the functions without having to retain the factory stereo. Peripherial makes the GMAH24 for both the Bose and Non-Bose systems and it should retain full function of the car. Otherwise the installation is not very hard for an in-dash screen. Most of the wiring is just like a regular head unit. You will have the VSS and the parking brake wire but you can get the location and color codes from the vehicle info section of this site. You will have to find a location for the extra module of the unit and route the wires to the dash accordingly. Also we are always here to help you out if you get stuck. ------------- Good Luck!

If I did choose to keep the factory head unit in the trunk, where can I go online to get the extension wires?? Also then I would need to get new wires for the 12volt, a ground, dash, and ignition? Where would I find these wires?

ok the externsion wire to run radio to trunk you can get them at best buy . try radio shack for wires hope this helps

Another question. Lets say I install a new headunit and rewire the factory cd player in the trunk. What wires would I have to extend to the trunk? I know the power, ground, and what else? Or is the extention like a wiring harness where it will just plug into the factory wiring. I refuse to cut into the factory wiring. Also, if I hook up a new amp with the new HU, how would the onstar work? Because when you press the button, it goes throuh the speakers, and puts whatever in playing on hold. Thanks.

you might be able to rig up something with the mute input... but really I still think you should look around for an intergration kit of some sort, Im sure they make one, just check PAC and some of the other similar companies

just buy the bypass module or pay someone to install it for you. it will save you a lot of time and confusion. I have never heard of anyone relocating their factory HU to the trunk so that they can install a aftermarket one. I dont think they even make extension cables so that people can put their HUs into their trunks. Even if you did relocate it to the trunk, you will still need to splice into your factory harness to get power and switched 12v to your nav unit.
i recomend that you search the internet for mote carlo clubs or people who have put nav units in their mote carlos. then email those people with the questions you have. ------------- Thanks,
