with factory subwoofer
1. can I use regular wire harness Scosche FD-16 -- or do I need different one to work with the sub?
2.Will the DDin Avic-D1 fit in without a dashkit or do I need a dash kit? model # please?
3.where to find speed sense wire?--is it gray/black?

You can use a normal harness with it. I hard wired my D1 straight to the wiring but you don't need a special amp interface to use a harness. I did some differents mods on the install, but basically just pull the radio, then take off the trim piece from the center dash. Be careful with the center dash piece because it can be stuborn and it will not come off far before it gets caught by the climate controls. You can unplug the harnesses from the center controls (hazard lights, passenger airbag light) I would recommend unhooking one terminal on the battery so as not to trigger any warning lights with the airbag system. The climate controls will unbolt from the trim piece by removing the four 7mm bolts. Finally unplug the cigarette lighter and the center trim piece will be free.
The basket of the D1 will fit width wise, but you will have to trim the sub dash plastic to get it to fit vertically. I trimmed a little plastic and instead cut the basket apart and welded the basket to the metal dash anchors (you'll know what I am talking about when you get it apart. I think this was probably the hard way, I would just trim the dash further until the whole basket fits. If you mount the basket flush with the subdash, the trim ring will fit behind the center dash piece. The unit will be slightly recessed into the opening, but it does not look bad or affect the functionallity of it at all.
If you check the wiring information on this site it will give you the location of the speed sense wire. I used the one that is at the PCM. The PCM is located under the hood, high center of firewall. The wiring information will tell you which plug it is in. I believe you could also use the non-common wire on an injector.

was it a gray \ black wire still?
looks like the scosche FAI-FD16 has rca adapter to aftermarket sub out
to connect to factory sub
also do you think a modified dash kit could be bolted to the D1?

I connected the tach to the far left plug of the PCM, wire is GREEN / WHITE.
The factory subwoofer has an amp attached to the plastic enclosure that uses high level inputs which are tapped to the speaker leads somewhere else other than the stereo. If you just hook up the regular 4 speakers to the D1 the sub will still work. I am in the process of finishing the fiberglass enclosure for my MB Quart 12" to replace the factory one.
I will take a picture of my D1 and post it. I don't think a modified dash kit could be bolted to it because the dash kit for the newer Fords with this size opening are really flimsee in my opinion.

unfortunately no useable info for me on the ver. 4.0 cd-rom
this was an early build 05 escape with cd-6 and fact sub.--all the info found online even fords wiring
diagrams show the VSS wire at pin 14 in the factory harness gray\blk--
wire wasnot there--pin 14 empty--apparently some early build 05 did not have this
this wire can be found in the main wiring harness under hood, drivers side, running up from the
abs module and it is GRAY \ BLACK
the best place I found for the reverse wire was under drivers side sill plate in main harness
I think it was GRN \ Black -- but test for 12 v + in reverse
for installing the D1 --- sub dash must be cut down about 1\2" total
to properly center unit vertically- i ended up removing about an 1\8 inch on the bottom
and about 3/8" on the top-- this will allow unit to be centered in the factory dash panel
Mock up the D1 in the dash hole (with out cage) and mark your mounting holes( 4 per side)
the D1 has 2 small L brackets left and right- that line up with the factory metal shims that the stock
radio clips into. Drill your holes and use small self tapping screws to mount D1.
Next - mark on the sub dash- 4 spots ( 2 top \ 2 bot ) where the D1's trim panel attaches.
then notch these 4 spots out about an 1\8" . Also- recommend covering the factory metal
slide bracket(for stock radio) with some smooth velcro or foam etc... as the bottom of the D1
will rest on this
