Greetings,

My project before me is to install a NavMate Navigation System in a 2005 Dakota.

2005 Dakota's have the CANBUS system. Something I notice while perusing the Factory Service Manual, is that the BUS links the 5 or 6 modules together. It appears that sensors, like the VSS report to a PCM or TCM, are not linked into the BUS. The TCM or PCM take the input, convert it to another signal which is transmitted through the BUS.

If you reference Rostra's Tech website, they list a Signal Adapter 250-4369 is needed to hook up their Cruise Control  System on A/T. They also show the VSS Pulse for A/T as 38,600 and M/T as 8000

Also, checking with Dodge the VSS is the same for 1999 to 2005 Dakotas, whereas the 99 -04's were not BUS.

Most of the posts already here refer to 300C, Magnum, etc. I am not familiar with the BUS on them, and so don't know if it is the same type BUS as on a Dakota.

So my questions is... can the VSS signal be treated as a non-BUS if it is not directly linked by BUS? and if so, will the signal pulse be the same as a non-BUS?

Has anyone had any experience with the Rostra's Signal Adapter?

NavMate requirements for the VSS signal be either of these:

square wave pulse fequency -0Hz to 2.5 kHz , -13 to +26 Vmax

sine wave pulse frequency 1 Hz to 200 Hz , -13 to +26Vmax

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you

I am surprised,  no replies ,,,

Anyway, for those like me that need to know... you can hook up the VSS wire to the sensor line. Do it between the sensor and the module. It works, no adverse reaction to my truck.
