Anti-theft ideas for AVIC HU’s?

Other than the ubiqitous (ignored) alarm, are they any precautions or measures you can think of to protect this expensive radio? (AVIC-z1)

Backstraps, but that will only do so much. The thief may end up ruining the display trying to take it out.

I have a buddy that lives in NYC and has to park in the street and has had each of the N models, and currently has an N3 for added iPod support. His idea is all about stealth installs and alarms.

Since he knows the majority of alarms are ignored he installed 2 high decible piezo sirens in the car connected to his yellow top battery. You can't be in the car with them going off, and the alarm on the vehicle is going off as well. This will make it so the theif can't spend time in the vehicle.

Next he makes sure all of his audio in the car is stealth installed (done most of it himself). He does remove the faceplate from his stereo when done (of course on the Z1, that's not possible). He also has it recessed into his dash some, has a backstrap on the unit to make it harder to remove, and has a custom made dash piece that covers the stereo up with a graphic on the outside of the dash piece that looks like the factory tape deck, and not even a factory CD player. When he's going to leave his vehicle for any length of time, he jus puts this cover over the head unit area, and bang, it looks like the factory desk, even with some fake controls on it for a "3-D" look. You can barely tell when sitting in the car, let alone from the outside.

So theifs looking in cars see a factory tape deck, don't see the aftermarket speakers or anything either, and if they did break in, the piezo sirens are load enough to detract you from staying in the car. If you had ear plugs maybe, but I haven't seen many theifs with a ready supply of ear plugs in their pockets. The sirens are load enough to make you dizzy and sick at your stomach in about 10 seconds of being in the car.

I welded the bracket into the car and then instead of using the mounting screws I riveted it to the brack because I can always drill them out to take it out but how many thiefs care sufficient tools to steal something like that.
