Screwball VSS, ’05 Ford Freestyle

I did a search or two, and found the info on tapping one of the wheel speed sensors on a '05 Ford Freestyle for VSS.

Ofcourse the Eclipse AVN-5500 doesn't like it. Not sure why its complaining, but while it seems to have a very close to accurate speed in the System Test screen, it also continuously says "Check Speed Pulse" in Nav mode.

I also tried the BLACK/ Grey wire found in the 2 wire harness at the deck. This wire was mentioned on a few other forums as the VSS tap used by the factory deck to do speed-sensitve volume. This wire makes the Eclipse go totally screwy. The speeds reported in the System Test screen are hardly ever correct, and usually are somewhere in the 80/mph zone, even when just barely rolling.

Someone, please help a newbie out!

keep it connected to that wire that causes it to go 80+ mph, and go into the menu where you can adjust the position/direction, instead press the button for tire change.  Then drive the vehicle around until the Eclipse has learned the pulse.  In the System Check screen under VSS it will say "studying" when it is trying to learn, then "complete" when it is done.  Make sure you have GPS signal, that will make the process much easier/faster.

Well, I moved the speed sense wire back over to the oddball one, and the Eclipse really wants to learn, but I've driven many miles with a GPS fix, and still it gets screwed up.

At some speeds it keeps up good, at others, its totally lost. Occationally it will stop tracking all together, even with a GPS lock.

I'm going to keep it connected for a few more days and see if it gets any better. Any idea how long this process should take?

hey guys, the VSS wire for this vehicle is WHITE/ orange, either at the ABS control module, or at the parking aide module which is to the right of the gas pedal. Check this out and see if it works. Good Luck!
