i just got the avic z1 and when i set a destination to follow it doesn't actually mark me while i pass check marks, it doesn't give me any directions, it just shows the route. i have the parking brake wire on a toggle switch. is that probably why it doesn't work right??? any feedback is helpful.

When you say "mark me while I pass check marks", do you mean that the arrow is not moving as the car is moving? Do you have your VSS wire hooked up? Go to the service screen and ensure you're locked onto enough GPS satellites, as well as getting the beeping tone as you drive from your VSS sensor. Also make sure the parking brake changes as you flip your switch. You shouldn't really even have a switch on the Z1 because it won't help, it'll still lock you out using the GPS as a way to tell you're moving...

no thats not what i meant... the arrow moves on the screen, but i dont get any vocal directions from the system " such as make a left turn in a quarter mile " and my VSS wire isn't connected because the installer was unable to find the speed pulse wire in my 06 Ram. I guess chrysler doesn't use a wire anymore in there newer vehicles.  But my posistion is still accurate with just the GPS antenna fuctioning.

make sure that your front speakers are hooked I don't know if you are using amps or not but the voice guidance comes out of the front channels and also you don't need the vss hooked up either

What color is the your route once it's plotted? Green or Purple?

Page 48 of the instructions says:

Roads without turn by turn instructions

Routable roads (The route displayed and highlighted
in purple color) have only basic data and
can only be used to plot a navigable route. Pioneer
Navigation will only display a navigable
route on the map (only the arrival guidance for
the destination or a waypoint is available). Please
review and obey all local traffic rules along the
highlighted route. (For your safety.)
No turn-by-turn directions or arrow icons will be
displayed on these roads.

When your vehicle reaches to the entrance of this
road, the icon will be displayed, indicating
that the guidance is not available with this type of
road. The icon will be indicated for the road
with which the guidance is available.
The Close-up of intersection function, Auto
Reroute function, Changing the view to Guide
View, or Route View are not available.[/quote]

Oh yeah, Just a shot in the dark ... if you're using the Optional DEQ-P8000 Multi-Channel processor you'll need this to hear navigation commands:

your VSS wire doesn't need to be connected for your GPS to work becuase it will calibrate to the gps antenna. do you get beeping when you push the buttons?
