I am getting ready to install AVIC-Z1 in my car and need some help. I have 1993 Lexus GS 300. Can some one help me with the 2 wires that I cannot seem to get any information about? I have searched the forum but no info
I need to know where and what color wire in the car is for speed signal input (SS).
Second question is regarding the reverse gear signal input wire. Can I hook this up in the car somewhere rather than going all the way back to the trunk and hooking it up there?
Any help with this will be greatly appreciated.
Those two are not absolutely necessary for proper operation. The speed sense wire is only used when the GPS antenna loses signal from the satellites, and the reverse wire is only necessary if you use a back view camera

Life moves pretty fast; if you don't stop and look around once in a while; you could miss it.
vss also used for the digital display gauges on the unit dont forget that.
I just installed an AVIC-D1 in my 99 Lexus GS400 and did both of the connections you are asking about - https://www.clublexus.com/forums/showthread.php?t=214505&page=4
I can't answer your first question regarding which wire is the speed sensor wire in your gauge cluster, but as someone else mentioned, hooking up that wire makes your navigation system more accurate and is a good idea to make that connection.
Regarding running the reverse signal wire all the way to the back - this is actually not as hard as it seems. Just run it under the carpet all the way to the back. I don't know where else you can connect this wire in the front without having to run it all the way to the back.
