Anyone had a chance to use one of these yet? I used mine on my way back from vacation yesterday and really liked it. I have always had in-dash navigation and I wanted to see how different it is. For a portable navigation this thing was pretty much dead on accurate. It gives you enough warning before turns and then follows up right before the turn. And the size of this thing is great. Driving back almost every other car had a portable navi on the windshield and I couldn't get over how big they looked. The Pioneer appears to be one of the smallest made in my opinion.
One of the other things I liked was the built in Bluetooth. The people I talked to on it said it was nice and clear, with no echo. Now I now Bluetooth and I know no echo now doesn't mean no echo later, but I am keeping my fingers crossed.
So, anyone else use one of these things yet??

what was ease of use like? I have old people that want nav and dont want to figure out how to use Tom Tom and the likes. Is this thing strait forward or is it a unit that can only be used properly by techno guys

I would like to say it is straight forward, but that is all relative to the user. Let's say you want to go to location "A" and it is in city "B". You choose the address option, pick the State, pick the city(which it uses a form of predictive text to narrow your city search) and then the street and then the house number. To me it seems easy enough. Let's put it this way, my wife figured it out in the first try. You can search by POI(points of interest)also. Another kind of techie feature I like is you can change the menu background to make it look less plain if you like.
Oh, and another point about the city search. Once you have entered a city it saves it for a quick reference so you don't have to type out the city again. Which is a + in my opinion.

Hey I was going to www.avic411.com looking for a review, but. I want to know how is the reliability factor? THe z1 and old avic's use telatlas, which is insuperior to navteq many say? How are the navteq maps? I just can't wait pioneer to keep using navteq maps.

So far the mapping seems very good and quite accurate. I am travelling to Cincinnati next week and I will get to really test it down there. Then the week after I will be in the Pittsburgh market, which will be another good test.
I got bored tonight, and couldn't think of anything better to do than work in the garage where it was 100 degrees. So I picked up a Pro Fit cellular mount and got my S1 to fit on it and install into my car. The unit does come with a nice, sturdy suction cup mount but I am all about ergonomics.

Well I got the avic S1 today. One problem the windshield mount is stiff and can't bend so when the avic s1 is mounted I can't even see the avic s1 good enough, anyone else have this problem? But so far it has been reliable, except one time it told me to turn left when it should have been to turn right.
Also I was driving and the map just went sort of blank and my arrow was in the middle of no where, but I managed to get it working ( I think I reset it or contintued driving) but why does it just knock me off the map into the middle of no where? I still see the path where I'm supposed to drive on the edge of the screen and I have to drive to it but whats the problem? Anyways it's a good device. I'll just have to use it more.
Also 12volt how did you install it in your car? I need it to be mount better.

The mount does bend, it is just very rigid. Also, the kicking you off the map may be a result of new construction. I have noticed that with the in-dash product before. Most mapping is an average of 6 months behind...an average, so it could be longer than that in some cases. Let me know what you think of it after using it for a couple of weeks. -------------

Yeah we got it to bend. Yeah it's new construction, someone else with a navigation system has the same problem. I like it so far, some times it tells me to turn left when it should be right, or it tells me to turn left when the street sign says don't turn left. Or sometimes it tells me to u-turn when I need to, in the wrong section. But with a few updates this product will be nice. I like it a lot. It's my sisters, I may buy it for myself later. I really like it, navigation accuracy is very accurate and right on. Maybe the avic in dash navigation products should use navteq? Because I hear people complaining of teleatlas maps, but the avic s1 is fine. I also like the speed of the s1. I'm in tallahassee which isn't that big, how you tried this product in a big city and how does it work? Is it still working good for you 12 rep? I like it. God Bless
