Is it possible to power a monitor from the battery lead of a head unit. When the monitor needs 12V DC And 700mA.

It is possible but I would not recommened it.  Find a 12 volt constant wire like the one in your ignition harness and use it.  Or you can run one from your battery.  Your radios amp needs the full power from the 12 volt lead.  I wouldnt put the extra load on it even though it is not much.  Good luck.  Brian
