I have a 2006 honda civic ex and im installing moniters and a dvd player however I have a problem. I ran wire to ground all the devices, which was simple. then I ran wire(red) for the power supplys, all with inline fuses. I then used a fuse tap to tap my cars accessory fuse(spot 28 or 29) and connected those red wires to it. The devices power up when the key is turned or the car is on but when I shut the car off they stay on. I thought the accessory fuse was supposed to solve this, what can I do to get them to shut off when I shut the car off, any ideas? Im stumped Does anyone know which fuse I can use?
I can't figure out why none of the guys here want to help you. I will get the info you need Monday and let you know. I haven't heard of Honda using a data-bus system but maybe they have, I will check with the guys in the shop and see.
I would assume that you have an aftermarket radio in your car if so you could look into connecting your power wires to the red wire of your Radio. Or you could get the wire at your cigarette lighter (if there is one in your car)
Depending on what kind of fuse tap you have these are not always the best things to use, some of them will spread the contacts of your fuse box apart thus causing unreliable connections.
Hey thanks alot for your help, it seems no one on here actually wants to help, weirdos. I did kinda fix my problem. I was trying a fuse tap and running it from the accessory fuse, but I discovered that its always hot, even though it doesnt work when the car is off. So I tried my radio/acc fuse and that worked how it was supposed to. Like you said, I didnt want to use a fuse tap for long since they do suck, so I bought a "fuse plug" which plugs into the empty fuse slot and creates an extra line from the fuse while still giving you the option of plugging a fuse into the top of the "plug" that fuses the original slot. Another Question: If my radio fuse is 7.5a and I'm running 2 7" moniters and a dvd player (all under 3a) from that one wire that comes from the fuse plug does that sound like I will over load that fuse over time? I mean just for safety I used an Inline fuse on all three wires going to the fuse, then all three of those wires are wrapped(after the inline fuse) together and connected to the wire running from the fuse plug. Does all this sound good, you seem to know a good amount, thanks for your help again. PS I have the factory radio/dvd player for my car right now, no aftermarket one.
Your 7.5 amp fuse should be fine. you sound like you know a little about what you are doing so do this pull the fuse out of the thingy turn your key on and if your dvd player still comes on put the fuse back in and run with it. If the DVD does not come on you need to flip the thingy over but make sure you have an inline fuse holder right there at the thingy.
What we just did was made sure the DVD and monitors are not running through the fuse for your radio. we made sure the DVD and monitors were hooked to the side of the fuse that gets voltage without going through the fuse
