I have a 2002 Ford Explorer / sunroof. I have purchased a directed OHD901 all in one dvd system. Wondering if anyone has put a system an explorer w/ a sunroof. Any ideas about mounting this to the roof would be appreciated. Pictures of doing this would be even better.

Thanks, Bryan

No different than any other install, quite easy. Sunroofs just make the install faster. Our company had aluminum plates made up that we can crew above the headliner. I can't stand seeing chunks of wood up there, wood has no place in a car except for looks...

Thanks for the reply, Can you give me dimensions and thickness for the plate, pictures of it would be great. I was thinking the exact thing and welding studs on it that would match where the mounting holes are on the mounting plate are. Then taking loose the trim around the sunroof hole and dropping this plate in studs down. Use nuts to attach the mounting bracket for the dvd player.

I have never installed one of these, so any instructions on doing this would be greatly appreciated.

One more thing Mike M2

Is the weight of the DVD system supported only by the headliner, it seems pretty strong. Do you put that alum plate above the headliner and than you sell tapping screws to hold the mounting plate in place. Is so what length screws do you use.

Keep checking this post as I may need more help,

Thanks for all the help, Bryan

The paltes we use are about 12 by 18 inches. I first cut a hole in the headliner an inch or so smaller than the DVD, about 3 inches behind the sunroof. Above the headliner is a metal beam that runs across the roof. Slide the plate between the headliner and the beam through the edge of the sunroof. Use small self tapping screws and attch the plate to this beam Now you have something very secure to attach the DVD to. Make sure the screws are just long enough to hit the plate, no longer, or it will interfer with the slider. Also, make sure you do ALL this with the slider closed!
