i know its not out in europe yet but when it dose im putting it into my golf... many many problems so bear with me and any help will be welcome. i want a ps3 in the glovebox (no problem there) and want to wire it up to a 7" screen in the center console question what one would you recomend????, what im planing on doing is because the ps3 has a 60gb hard drive i want to run my songs of the hard drive through my screen and to my components. i will be using 2 10" subs in the boot with a amp, 2 6x9's with a amp and 2 6" components in the doors, what im really wondering is is there a screen that has what i want??? i dont want a flip out monitor just a screen, and i dont want to "clutter" the console with a headunit if i dont have to get one, is there anyone who can enlighten me. a idea i had was to buy a flip out monitor unscrew the monitor and fabricate it into the dash, and fit the head unit under the screen, would this work and what flip out unit would people recomend, thankyou

There are many ways to do this and I will tell you one way.

Just use any 7'' raw monitor and run the video output of the PS3 to it (good luck getting a PS3, there are riots and shootings here to get one and they put them on ebay for thousands of dollars, you might need to wait).

Now run the audio out of the PS3 to an indash pre-amp, (most are 1/2 DIN size so fitting it virtually anywhere you wish is no problem). The pre-amp will give you fingertip control of volume, fade, x over and eq (tonal) settings as well as plenty of voltage output if needed to run the amps.

Now this setup will allow the PS3 as your main source but many preamps have more then one set of inputs so you have the option in the future to add another source (tuner, satellite, ipod etc.) This setup is also the least expensive way to go IMO but gives you exactly what you requested.

Good Luck

I'm not too sure about a ps3 in a car the blu ray laser is extremely sensitive to vibration, I guess if you were only using the hard drive you wouldnt have problems but if u decided to play games or something fro the vibration of the subs and the car , you may have a problem.

Advanced auto has a point. What I would do is not play any video games while you are driving (well I guess that's a no brainer..lol). As far as any resonance causing a problem from too much bass (2-10'' shouldn't be too much) you won't know until you try, but again this won't effect the hard drive. If bass causes a problem you might have to experiment with mounting, either more solid OR with some kind of cushioning or "shock absorber". Or you could lower the bass if any games have an effect but once again you won't know till you try.

Keep us posted and if you find a way to get any PS3's at suggested retail let me know..I'll take a dozen..lol.

I think road vibrations would be the cause of problems with sensitivity, not bass air movement. imagine driving over a bump, everyone remembers at one time in their live a cd skipping... what happens if a blueray skips, would something get damaged??? who knows.

It's not a matter of the "air moving" that would cause vibrations. It is resonance. For actual air movement to cause a problem you would need quite a bit more SPL then 2 10's in the trunk will ever do.

But I have experience CD skipping from this, however it's been a long time as i believe the manufacturors have corrected this, it used to really be a problem back in the day. Also notice that with high SPL competition systems they usually have the head unit outside the vehicle for exactly this problem. But mp3 /hard drive is the real solution IMO.

But once again..if road vibration is really a problem with the blue ray as I stated earlier...he just needs not to play video games while driving. He wants it for music with the hard drive..the video games can wait until it's parked if needed. If resonance from bass is a problem...which I highly doubt it will be in this case, my previous suggestions should help.

One more thing. I don't think vibration to the blue ray will really cause any permanent damage regardless. Apparently Sony must be aware that they are sensitive to vibration and you know they will get banged around eventually...even in the house.

Sony would be swamped with repairs if it was really that bad. However, it might mess up the game you are playing and/or require a reset at the worst. But I'll let you know for sure if I EVER get my hands an a PS3. If I did have one now it would have been put on ebay, I wouldn't even have opened it.

LOL Has anyone actually seen the crazy prices those things are going for on ebay??? 3000 plus! Thats insane, im definately not that desperate for one. Also it always takes a while to work the kinks out of new electronics, sony has already announced problems with the software not being able to play some ps2 and 1 games.

Yeah it's a joke..I saw one today with a "but it now" price of only 5000 dollars. My friend told me he saw one for 20,000 2 days ago...what is wrong with people? they can't wait a few months when they will be collecting dust in the stores. Thier kids not spoiled enough?? It's like the retarded cabbage patch craze when people were killing each other for a stupid ugly useless doll. For now I get plenty of use from my PS2..I think I can wait a few months.

I just wanted some to sell on ebay to some sucker for what I could get.

My friend waited at 6 in the morning the other day for the new nintendo. He was able to get 2 of those @ 250 dollars each. They were bidding at 600 the last I spoke to him. The power of human stupidity never ceases to amaze me.

thanks master5 and the lot of ye for the input, just what i neaded to know, well if i was ever to play a video while driving id play it off the hard drive  it is big enough and if i get stuck ill just add another hard drive through a usb slot i seen a 350GB plug in hard drive for 170EUROS last week so its a utter bargin (unless i miss read it witch i probably did but anyway its nice to dream)!!  doubt id be useing blue ray videos, im almost certin you cannot get any 7" hd ready and if there is one id say its bloody expensive!! so it would be a waste of time and money to buy blue ray  and well out of my price league.!!. just for back up is there any other suggestions?? my old head unit had a usb port i just pluged in my psp and uploaded the songs of that but my head unit is F***** from a bad crash so im building a bad ass system only problem is im clue-lessposted_image. thank god for this site though its a really good resorce.!!

well they are not out here till march but yes i have 1 ordered off a store thats getting 3, im going to be ther all night before the launch to save guard the place and makes sure no "TWOCER" breakes in and steals my investment!! posted_image but ya it is crazy the prices those things are going for!!

im studying computer systems and networking and yesterday 2 hours after i posted this thread we learned about hard drives and how they work i was p****** to find how its bad for them to be moved whilst running has the reader could scratch the surface and could make the info unuseable!! is this a exaggeration or would i be best to put it in a metal frame and suspend it on like indrustial spec elastic bands top and bottom posted_image posted_image(cheap and wild solution i know but it wouldnt be in contact with any surface) and i want to hide it in the dash anyway if it will fit.!! wot do ye think lads??

you are going to go throw alot of harddrives.. haha.. why do u want to put a PS3 in your car? that seems like a waste of $600 + .. i would just say get a iPod with 80gb hard drive, and get the 7in screen to work with it, and then u can watch movies with no problem, and listen to all that music.. and for like half the price.   but hey, its your money, im just talking from the poor mans point of view

I see cars all the time with PC's installed as well as people using laptops on planes. I have yet to see any get damaged and they get bounced around like crazy. As well I would think it is possible if the vibration was severe enough that any mechanism could get damaged, you gotta be realistic and take precautions.

But, this is not to say you shouldn't consider hotmilks suggestion, it does make sense as far as long term reliability and saving money if your prime concern is media and not video games. And this way you don't have to wait in front of a store freezing your bum off all night and beat someone in the skull with a hammer when they try to steal your ps3 ..lol

Yea really check out mp3car.com 600 would go along way to putting a car pc in. You could have all the song on the hard drive possibly wifi connectivity, I've even seen where people have the car pc control the windows, headlights, blinkers, etc (ca&e dec issue) You could watch movies and have navigation for a lot cheaper then buying one of those all in one, in dash setups.

if i had a ps3 n my car i would be the doodie...thats why he wants to put 1 in his car....this is why i wanted to work at toys or us for xmas...so i can get the good stuff before the crazy moms out there do and flip them on ebay...

If you worked at toys r us and were actually able to get PS3's you could have retired and not had to work at toys r us anymore. I doubt if toys r us or any company let the employees have PS3's unless the managers are really really cool or you steal them.

But thats the whole problem..just getting a ps3, to me it's not worth it, especially with the glitches and the fact that in a few months they will be able to get on ebay cheap.

But other then that it is not a big deal to have a video game in the car, it just plugs in to a monitor. If it's that important just use a PS2 until the PS3 becomes available and they have fixed the problems. By then they will be in all the stores or used on ebay for dirt.

Maybe its just me, but i've never seen the point of having a game system in my car. I don't have kids, and you can't play video games while driving, I would take that same 600 and put it into a car pc and leave the ps3 at the house where I could relax and play it.I guess it would be a nice flash appeal if you did alot of car shows.

to be honest im pump'n out my car and id love the novilty of haveing one in it, i mean yes its kind of pointless but its brownie points right but it will be removeable!!! im going to build a sliding frame and replace the passanger airbag with it, and fabracate a opening where the bag once poped out, and then i hoped to mould a fibreglass steering wheel center and have the controler set into it, so it could be taken out for playing the games, plus it will act as a remote for flicking through songs and the like, its what car customisation is all about each to there own and showing those strokes of genius. ya them other ideas sound good but thats what every custom car has over here, its try'd and tested and i want to go for something diffrent. but i do hear your voices of reason. im not going to start my install untill i have all the parts and get them cheap because im a student i know how to scrounge!! thanks again fellas if there are any other ideas feel free to post your opinion

Oh yeah..nothing like a playstation in the face in the event of an accident. Kidding aside, if it's something you really want to do I will support it and help in any way so feel free to post any other questions.

Good luck with it.

lol I don't see why people wouldn't want one in their car, I don't care if it gets use or not, just the fact of having one in your car is f****n tight! I think it is that most people would be jealous that you have one in your car, and most people on this forum, no disrespect, are older and not teenagers like I am or a few others are.  I will tell you one thing though, you better have some reinforced windows and an alarm that will notify you instantly and shoot the guy trying to steal it!

lol.
