Hey guys, just thought I'd post up some pics of something I did today.  Ya know how when you do an over head in some gms, the customer has to lose their rear a/c controls/domelight panel?  Well, we happened to have a few of those at the shop so I decided to make use of one.  The idea is for people who want rear seat ent. but want to have the dvd player in the dash and dont want to do headrests.  Oh, and it would be cheaper.

Okay, so thats it.  As you can tell, the monitor took the place of the rear a/c controls and the panel was built up to support it, wrapped in headliner material and since I had to have a seam somewhere because of the obnoxious curves, I wrapped a contrasting piece of suede over the seam.  The last pic is of the thing mounted on display.  If anybody wants a write up on how to do this I have a few more pics.

Looks good, but I would have to see it mounted in the vehicle to be sure. By the way audiovox makes a custom console for those vehicles to retain the rear controls, and I've yanked or buried the controls and put a bunch of universal overheads in the spot no problem. Seems like a lot of work to me, but good job nonetheless! It would be nice if it retained the controls and put them on the front or something.

The ideal situation for this is somebody who has an indash dvd player and wants a rear monitor to feed the video to.  Every overhead that I sell has a built in dvd player so that player is basicly a waste of money because they wont ever use it.  Therefore, they get a nice cheap monitor, with a nice cheap install fee (like I said it took me less than 2 hours) that doesn't look like every other car going down the road.
