Has anyone installed a Nav/DVD unit in an old muscle car?  How do you handle the need for a VSS connection?  Anymore info on your install would be helpful also.

Thanks

I also have the GenII Nova, a '74. It'll take awhile to get it 'street-worthy'. -i figure that by the time i'm in my mid-life crisis it'll be ready (i'm 21)!

Anyways, unless you've got a newer-style transmission with digital VSS, I don't think it's possible to use that function.

I've got to ask, where are you installing the unit, in the factory location to the right of the steering wheel?

nope....in the custom box from classictruckconsoles.com....these are the doodie!  They come oversized so that when you trim it down it fits snugly under the dash making it look as original as possible.

Check them out and tell them that Cars4Kids sent you.

Steve

ps....the original stereo location will be filled with a panel somehow to make it all look good.

Now I am troubled on how to get this to work.

heeeeeeeyyyyyyyy......punk......what's this about mid-life crisis?  I am 42 and bought this car for my 5 year old son and I....it has nothing to do with over-compensating.

Most newer nav/dvd don't require vss hook up any more.  There are ways to hook up a pulse generator to make it work, but it's just easier to use a different unit.

LOL. That's cool.

I replaced the factory stereo with a triple gauge kit mounted in an aluminum plate. It fits nicely. I'm adding a center console from a 74 Camaro to the car as it came with the column shifter. This way I can use a B&M floor shifter. Also, the console i'll be using has the perfect-sized space for a CD player.

If you do not spend a lot of time driving around parking garages or in tunnels the speed sense wire is not necessary for the newer nav units as someone said earlier.  They work great without it.

Okay....here's a solution from Alpine....they actually make a module NVE-K300 and the cheapes online price was $187.00....and yes in Pittsburgh there are too many tunnels.

Once you get out of the tunnel it will only take a fraction of a second for the GPS unit to figure out where you are.  Unless there are exit ramps on your tunnels you really aren't going to need the fabricated vss.
